Caribbean Bliss / Lasting Memories guest designer.

Hi guys! I'm guest designing with Lasting Memories this month and today is our next challenge - use 4 patterned papers!

I used all the goodness from Bella Blvd's Island Paradise collection. I bought this collection to document our trip to Mexico in February and it's making miss the beach.

So I was able to use five different patterned papers on this page - one is from a border strip sheet so it doesn't really count ;) 

1) pink background paper
2) clouds from a cut file
3) and 4) photo mats
5) border strip

I didn't love this pink background paper so I smeared some Faber-Castell gel medium on it and added a bunch of Shimmerz colors. Then I just added some stickers from that collection and I'll add my journaling last.

Elle's Studio Noteworthy + Paper Issues haul

it's time to celebrate / Lasting Memories guest designer.

Hey guys! I'm back at Lasting Memories sharing the layout I designed for the challenge create your own background.

Recently Indiana passed a law and we can now buy alcohol on Sundays. Yes, I know. Previously you had to plan ahead (!) or go to a restaurant because stores could not sell alcohol on Sundays. We had just returned from vacation in Mexico and were at the grocery store anyway so we bought one single bottle of beer, just to participate in this life changing event. We had plenty of alcohol at home, but we wanted to join in this historical moment.

So I have this Beer stamp set from Kellie's Stamps (I could only find the digital version to link) and I knew I wanted to use it to stamp my background. I pulled out a sheet of white cardstock and used Versafine ink. I arranged all of the stamps onto an acrylic block so I could cover a large area in an shorter amount of time vs stamping each stamp individually all over the page.

Then I chose a few other stamp sets from my stash and did the same thing, but with smaller groupings of stamps. I did use a few individual stamps at the end to help fill in larger white spaces.

This is the first time I've tried something like this and I love the way it turned out. I will definitely be doing this again! I did not do a perfect job, but I covered the worst area up so you don't even know. This is a fantastic way to get more use of your stamps!

A few things I learned...

• Stamp some of the images off of the page
• Some white space is OK
• Do a practice stamp after you put all your stamps on your acrylic block 
• Stamps can have a difference in thickness & this will affect your stamping if you use them both on the same acrylic block
• I didn't want to overlap images or use colored inks, but you could totally do either

Today I'm sharing a card I made using the Easter cling stamp set. This isn't an overly Easter themed card - more of a general religious card.

I chose the large sentiment and heat embossed it with a gold fine detail embossing powder. I also stamped out the small cross and fussy cut it. 

For my background, I used two yellow distress inks. I stamped the ink pads directly onto some old plastic packaging and spritzed it with water. Then I just smudged the color onto my background.

I'm so excited to be guest designing with Lasting Memories this month! I love their challenges!

To kick off April, our first challenge is to use a new paper technique. I decided to try hand stitching on a background paper... I hope that counts!

This was both harder and easier than I thought and I know that doesn't make sense to anyone else. I think normal people use embroidery floss, but I didn't have any since I've never done hand stitching. I used twine from my stash - two colors because I knew I would run out. I don't know if it didn't take as long as I expected or if just distracted myself by watching You Tube videos while I did it. I'm going to try it again in the future and I think it's something that will get easier with practice.

Using my Silhouette, I cut out this geometric heart and removed the inside pieces. Then I traced it onto my background paper. The pencil lines were a guide for my stitching and after I was done stitching, I erased them.

I combined the sketch challenge at Let's Get Sketchy + the squares challenge at The Studio.

I used the Pink Paislee Pick Me Up collection for this page. Instead of a diagonal patterned paper, I just used a washi strip to mimic the diagonal line from the sketch. This photographed crooked but the squares are lined up and straight in real life :) I still need to add my journaling to the ticket.

{Paper Wings Productions} Easter tags!

Hi friends! I'm sharing Easter tags on the Paper Wings Productions blog today using the Easter cling stamp set for both tags!

For my girlie Easter tag, I added some flowers from the Flower Power cling stamp set. I heat embossed the images onto my tag and then just used some misting + the packaging technique to add some color to the background.

With my boy Easter tag, I basically did the same thing. I used one of the bunny stamps and heat embossed him with brown embossing powder. I added the sentiment in blue embossing powder. Then I used some blue mist + the packaging technique for added color and texture to the background.

The lighting is terrible today because it's been rainy and gloomy. These pictures were from our trip to Mexico  last month. Oh how I wish I could spend every day laying in the sun, listening to the ocean, having cold drinks hand delivered :)

Treasure Hunt.

I'm joining in the Scrappy Friends March challenge this month! We're combining Brenda's challenge + Rochelle's challenge.

I still need to add my journaling, but these pictures are from St Patrick's day this year. A local brewery had a treasure hunt around downtown and I was dying to do something fun for the holiday so I dragged my boyfriend and my mom along.

 This patterned paper is from 2013 - Who remembers Glitz Design Finnley collection?! I mixed it with my new Elle's Studio March kit and broke out the black mist. I think I have a new love - black splatters!

Hey guys! Tonight I had a chance to play with Sketch 316 at Sketches in Thyme. I actually rotated this sketch so my design is based off this:

I'm putting together a scrapbook for my brother and his girlfriend for Christmas this year and this is one of the pages that will be in the album. I'm leaving little tags and spots on the pages for them to add journaling. Most of these pages are more simple than my normal style. For this  page, I spread some Faber-Castell gel medium to the background before adding my mixed media.

remember when.

I'm into the "vintage" photos lately and I saw Scrap the Girls has a Rosie the Riveter inspired moodboard and color challenge this month. This photo I pulled out is from the early 1960s of my great grandmother and my mom.

Hi! Tonight I'm playing along with Sketches in Thyme #316 today. I shrunk this sketch down to 8.5x11 size and instead of two photos, I used a newspaper article. I'm doing a "vintage" page today from when my parents got married.

I love this cut file I found in the Silhouette store! I used the Bella Blvd Island Escape for this page, which I bought specifically to document our trip to Playa del Carmen last week :) I used Sketches in Thyme sketch 315 for this page.

I decided to use the large flower from the Flower Power stamp set with some chunky black embossing powder. This super thick embossing powder makes my flower look so shiny and dimensional.

I used two distress inks to create my watercolored background and I just applied them using the packaging technique. I chose two greens to go along with our spring theme :) Normally when I use embossing powder, I use a fine, small paint brush to brush away any extra bits of embossing powder. It gives the embossed image a finished, less messy look. However, since I was using this super thick embossing powder this time, I chose to let the stray bits of embossing powder stay and I kind of like the look they leave.
